National children's month

The 2025 National Children’s Month celebration in the Philippines, themed “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!”, focuses on ending Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) while highlighting the importance of protecting every child’s safety, dignity, and rights. This theme reflects the growing concern about how children can be vulnerable in both digital and real-world environments, especially as technology becomes more central to their daily lives. The celebration emphasizes that protecting children is not just a program but a shared duty of the government, families, schools, and communities working together.

Government efforts to protect children show a whole-of-nation approach by raising awareness of laws like the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act. Authorities and local councils conduct seminars, campaigns, and training to help parents, teachers, and officials recognize and respond to online risks and abuse.

Beyond awareness, the government has launched concrete actions such as the National Strategic Plan to Combat OSAEC and CSAEM 2025–2028 to strengthen prevention, protection, law enforcement, and partnerships across sectors. In my view, celebrating National Children’s Month with a strong call to end abuse and exploitation highlights the government’s serious commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of Filipino children. By involving multiple agencies like the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), the celebration strengthens both legal frameworks and community actions that prioritize child safety. It also reminds us that children must be listened to and protected so they can grow, learn, and thrive without fear—a responsibility that must continue long after November ends.
